A hosted IP telephony solution offers enterprises rapid access to the technical and financial resources needed to deploy and manage a converged infrastructure, while still guaranteeing voice quality, a new report from the Yankee Group contends.
According to the research and consulting firm, IP telephony frees up resources, which companies can use to keep pace with rapid technological change as they focus on building business value.
With IP telephony gaining momentum, CIOs and network managers must determine their ability to deploy and manage it, says George Hamilton, Yankee Group Enterprise Computing & Networking analyst.
“The benefits of a converged infrastructure are lower costs, easier administration and enhanced communications services. Given the value of this technology, the decision is not whether to implement IP telephony, but how — either through a premises convergence or a services convergence strategy," he says.
“Small and medium-sized businesses and enterprises with multiple field or branch offices, such as banks, insurance companies, and retail chains, are good candidates for a hosted IP telephony solution. Remote management of a hosted solution can deliver immediate ROI.”
The report, entitled Hosted IP Telephony Offers a Path to Convergence, examines how the market for IP telephony and convergence is evolving and helps organizations understand the value of convergence and its unique implementation and management challenges.
It describes enterprise deployment options and includes a case study demonstrating how a hosted IP telephony solution can meet enterprise needs. CIOs and enterprise business managers can use this information to make well-informed decisions about including hosted IP telephony as part of their convergence strategy.
