The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) has published a new standard, “Telecommunications — Telephone Terminal Equipment — Performance and Interoperability Requirements for Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) Feature Telephones,” TIA-811-A.
According to TIA, it fills a “recognized need in the telephone industry brought about by the use of equipment supplied by many different manufacturers.
“It will be useful to anyone engaged in the manufacture of terminal equipment and auxiliary devices and to those purchasing, operating or using such equipment or devices.”
TIA-811-A specifies the minimum requirements for media and protocol-specific call control interoperability, acoustic performance, telephony feature support, safety, electromagnetic compatibility and environmental performance of VoIP feature telephones operating in a business environment.
