Free your data with PediaCities open data platform. PediaCities offers free platform for jurisdictions and organizations of all sizes to publish and manage datasets; includes contextual maps, data and indicators for all 30,000 towns/cities in the US.
NEW YORK, NY, November 20, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ontodia, Inc. announces the immediate beta availability of its Free Open Data Management Platform for all jurisdictions and organizations within the USA. PediaCities.com is a cloud-based service composed of two major integrated components:
OpenData.city - powered by CKAN, the world's leading open source data portal technology, powering the world's largest open data portals, and;
PediaCities Key Place Indicators - Ontodia's data contextualization technology, that converts raw open data to actionable insights
The combined offering aims to accelerate open data innovation - not only by drastically lowering the barrier to data publishing, but by also pre-seeding the system with contextual demographic data and maps coming from the US Census, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Patent and Trademark Office, FBI and various other federal and state agencies.
With its Key Place Indicator technology, PediaCities.com also makes garnering insights from disparate data sources easier by allowing users to build Dashboards to track progress on issues they care about using the data published in OpenData.city.
PediaCities.com KPI library was also seeded with indicators from the ISO 37120 standard - recently published by the International Standards Organization (ISO) to help "measure the performance of city services and quality of life."
"When we built NYCpedia.com last year, a lot of cities and organizations told us that they wanted something similar for their jurisdictions - not just a list of datasets in the cloud, but something that's immediately usable and understandable. We've been busy building PediaCities since then with the aim to take what we did here in NYC and take it everywhere," said Joel Natividad, Ontodia co-founder and CEO.
To power the nationwide rollout, Ontodia has partnered with ExterNetworks to run PediaCities.com on Amazon Web Services, monitored from ExterNetworks 24x7x365 Network Operations Center in Piscataway, NJ.
"ExterNetworks is excited to partner with Ontodia in this new field; leveraging our Fortune 500 experience; the running of mission critical systems; expertise on AWS; and our continuous innovation of cloud management tools we have put in place an infrastructure that will deliver the most reliable PediaCities Open Data Platform," said Malik Zakaria, CEO & Managing Director of ExterNetworks.
Ontodia is an big open data solutions company born out of open data. After winning the world's largest municipal open data challenge - NYCBigApps twice. Once in 2011 for the Large Organization Award; and again in 2012, for the Grand Prize, its co-founders started Ontodia to accelerate Open Data Innovation with the mantra to do "Open Data - using Open Source, with Open Standards" - in the belief that Open Data will only flourish if it follows the same principles that made the Internet possible and an essential component of modern life.
