Perle Systems, a developer and manufacturer of networking products for IP and e-business access, and Ace Hardware Corp., a co-operative of independent home hardware stores, today announced that Perle JetStream8500 Serial Servers are being deployed in all Ace Hardware stores.
The 24-port JetStream8500 serial server from Perle is an integrated multifunction offering that provides Ace Hardware with serial connectivity necessary for their upgraded POS solution.
Ace Hardware selected the JetStream8500 serial server after the company installed an updated Linux-based point of sale and inventory management system.
The objective was to improve operational efficiencies and provide a real-time link from its stores to a central inventory database. Given the extent of the rollout, Ace Hardware required a solution that would connect existing HP Unix serial servers to the network and allow for remote equipment maintenance.
The JetStream8500 can act as a Terminal Server, Remote Access Server, and Modem Pool, which according to Ace Hardware will reduce cost of ownership by eliminating the need for multiple types of connectivity devices.
“We needed an (offering) that was compatible with our existing and future systems, and could be delivered to each of our independent locations ready to ‘plug and play’,” said Laura Montesantos, project manager at Ace Hardware.
Perle product lines include routers, remote access servers, serial/terminal servers, console servers, emulation adapters, multi-port serial cards, multi-modem cards, print servers and network controllers.
Founded in 1924, Ace Hardware Corporation, headquartered in Oak Brook, Ill., is a cooperative wholly owned by its 5,100 independent hardware, home center, lumber and building materials retailers. Ace currently has over 5,100 locations in 69 countries including Canada
