The National Capital Institute of Telecommunications (NCIT)has selected the Alcatel IP (Internet Protocol) service router to enable new services on its advanced research network, NCIT*net.
The Ottawa organization will deploy the Alcatel 7750 Service Router to offer Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS) over a multi-protocol label switching backbone network as part of the NCIT*net’s focus on developing innovative applications and network services.
NCIT specializes in collaborative initiatives that unite the research capabilities of the Ottawa region’s federal laboratories, universities, colleges, global corporations and small and medium enterprises to engage in managed strategic research thrusts.
"NCIT’s mandate is to unite these organizations with our public research institutions in order to promote advanced research that leads to new technological developments,” said Dr. Maike Luiken Miller, vice president of research alliances for NCIT.
“Currently, the NCIT*net is undergoing a major upgrade to ensure its relevancy to leading-edge research.
Hubert de Pesquidoux, CEO of Alcatel Canada said deployment of the 7750 SR in an advanced research environment provides the company with a world class multi-vendor network environment in which to test new ideas.
