Following the conclusion of the Advanced Wireless Services (“AWS”) spectrum auction on Monday, Manitoba Telecom Services Inc. confirmed today that it has acquired 35 MHz of wireless spectrum covering 1.2 million people in Manitoba at a total cost of approximately $41 million.
“This provides us with the flexibility and capacity to manage future demand for next generation wireless services, including bandwidth intensive data applications,” said Pierre Blouin, CEO of MTS Allstream.
As required by Industry Canada’s auction rules, MTS will decline to provide further comment on its ongoing wireless plans until the high bidder accounts have been settled and a formal quiet period has been lifted.
