Submarine transport cable provider Hibernia Atlantic today announced it is on track to complete a multi-million euro cable build project, known as Project Kelvin, providing Ireland with its first direct 40 Gbps network.
The network is designed to provide capacity and redundancy for future business opportunities, both globally and locally.
Beginning this year, the Project Kelvin build included both an undersea cable linking Hibernia Atlantic’s most northern TransAtlantic route directly to Ireland as well as a terrestrial cable linking 13 Irish towns.
Once the build is completed in March 2010, businesses operating into and within Ireland will be able to avail of direct, low latency connectivity to Canada, the U.S. and mainland Europe at competitive pricing, the company said.
