Firefly Wireless Networks, a manufacturer of Visible Light Communications (VLC) LiFi products, demonstrated its SecureLink offering this week at the Broadband World Forum in Berlin. Germany.

SecureLink ceiling-mounted access points transmit to tabletop units using light instead of radio frequency WiFi transmission, which is prone to eavesdropping, interference, and RF congestion. According to the company, this creates a much more secure wireless network ideal for corporate and government conference rooms, as well as for applications in which data transmission speed and unsurpassed signal security are critical.

“LiFi is the hottest technology trend in wireless communications,” said Dr. Heinz Willebrand, CEO of Firefly. “The compact and portable LiFi transceivers can be equipped with an Ethernet/PoE as well as USB-C interface.

“Consequently, they can be placed in a broader range of applications and locations than competing solutions which utilize a less flexible dongle or fob design—which is constrained by direct connection to a laptop’s USB port and the user’s placement of the laptop.”

Additional coverage of LiFi will appear in the December issue of Connections+.
