Although winter has just begun, it feels like ages since we’ve seen the sun. Have no fear — there will be plenty of it for those who are heading south to the 30th annual BICSI Winter Conference in Orlando, Florida.

The international telecommunications association has scheduled its event for January 21-24 at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort. The event, designed specifically for voice, data, and video cabling infrastructure professionals, is expected to attract more than 4000 attendees from around the world.

The conference will feature a variety of sessions tailored to cabling and telecom types. Keynote speaker Paul Andres, president of Andres Investments, will explore the industry’s progress during the information revolution and potential business opportunities during his presentation on “Technology Avalanche Theory.” Also scheduled are sessions on TIA standards for centralized optical fiber, cellular floor systems, passive optical networking, plenum cable safety and performance, and Ethernet applications, to name a few. In addition, BICSI’s Executive Director Jay Warmke, will moderate a panel discussion called “The World of Non-Competing Telecommunications Organizations.”

Other activities include a BICSI members-only technical seminar, the exam for the prestigious RCDD designation, and pre-and post-conference BICSI design and installation courses. (Note: courses and exam require separate registration fees and are not included in the conference registration). Conference attendees can also visit over 200 industry exhibits before and after the educational sessions.

The fee for the conference is US$295 for 2001 BICSI members or US$345 for non-members who register by December 21, 2001. Members registering after December 21 will be charged US$325 and non-members will be charged US$375.

Conference details and on-line registration are available on the BICSI Web site ( A complete brochure with registration form may be obtained from BICSI World Headquarters, 8610 Hidden River Pkwy, Tampa, FL, 33637-1000; phone (813) 979-1991 or (800) 242-7405; e-mail:
