A recently published report by Dell’Oro Group has revealed the Ethernet Switch market continues to fragment with data centre switches driving almost all the growth in the overall market through 2020. Data centre sales for Arista, Huawei, and Juniper surged in 2015, growing 41%, 125% and 15% respectively.
“2015 was a record year for the data centre segment of the Ethernet switch market as the segment almost reached US$10 billion,” said the firm’s vice president Alan Weckel.
“2016 will see the start of the largest transition the Ethernet switch market has ever experienced as servers move to 25/50 Gbps and switches migrate to 25/100 Gbps. We expect almost all growth in data centre switches to come from the cloud as economic headwinds will likely cause a modest contraction from enterprises during the year. Additionally, we anticipate that for each year of the forecast period, the list of mega-cloud data centres using white-box switches will increase.”
The report also indicates market share for equipment manufacturers ranked two through five was very tight in 2015. Cisco is the clear market share leader with 57%, but after that the numbers are as follows: Hewlett Packard Enterprise 8%, Arista 8%, Juniper 4% and Dell 4%.
