According to a recent report by Dell’Oro Group, the worldwide service provider router market will increase 20% in 2006 to more than US$5 billion, and then continue expanding annually through 2010.
The report indicates that over the next five years, sales of edge routers will grow faster than core routers, as service providers construct networks that can deliver new, revenue-generating services such as VoIP and IPTV.
“Service providers are shifting their investments towards the next generation of edge routers to build reliable, feature-rich, high-speed networks,” said Shin Umeda, Principal Analyst of Routers Research at Dell’Oro Group.
“The end-game for them is to be able to sell additional, high-value services to the growing broadband customer base.”
