Corning Inc. will demonstrate that its Plug & Play Universal Systems with InfiniCor SX+ optical fiber are 100G Ethernet ready, capable of supporting transmission speeds up to 100G at Interop New York this week.
The requirement for higher data rates in premises networks, particularly in data centres, is being driven by many factors including video applications, virtualization and convergence, the company says.
It added that this increased bandwidth demand will contribute to the migration from 10G to 40G and 100G as evidenced by the IEEE’s recent approval of a task force to develop guidance for 40G and 100G Ethernet data rates.
Corning will show 40G over 150 metres with a bit error rate (BER) that exceeds the 10-12 error rate called for in standards. A distance of 150 metres over OM3 fiber exceeds the current standards requirement and covers the majority of premises link lengths.
