RESTON, VA — Teleglobe Communications Corp. (BCE Teleglobe) has announced plans to outsource its network operations, technology, IS/IT and real estate management functions through agreements with Bell Canada and CGI.
Approximately 700 of BCE Teleglobe’s 1,800 employees world-wide will be affected by the transaction. Most of the 700 employees will be transferred to either Bell or to IT services firm CGI, which will assist Bell in BCE Teleglobe’s IS/IT functions. Approximately 100 of these positions will be eliminated as a result of the outsourcing.
BCE Teleglobe says this arrangement will allow it to increase its focus on sales and marketing activities and accelerate the building of its global customer base.
“By having Bell Canada and CGI manage these functions for BCE Teleglobe, we leverage the strengths within the BCE family and give BCE Teleglobe the ability to better build our business and develop a solid, global base of customers”, said Charles Childers, president of BCE Teleglobe.
