Aliant, Atlantic Canada’s information and communications technology provider, today announced it will spend $58 million this year for expansion of its wireless digital network.
The investment will bring digital wireless coverage to approximately 91% of the population of Atlantic Canada.
“Wireless devices are becoming increasingly important to the way Atlantic Canadians communicate at home and at work,” the company said. “Not only are customers depending on wireless service to stay in touch with family, friends and co-workers, they are also relying on the wireless network for access to a variety of enhanced features.”
Enhanced features on Aliant’s digital wireless network include text, video and picture messaging and web-browsing. Web-browsing provides Internet access to customers and enables them to view information and entertainment sources while on the go.
Text messaging enables customers to connect anywhere, anytime with no long distance or airtime minutes being used.
