Telus Corp. today announced it has signed a five-year, multi-million dollar contract with Best Buy Canada Ltd. to connect all of its stores across the country with a private IP network.

Specific financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Our guiding principle is to develop and provide the best shopping experience,” said Brian Martin, chief technology officer with the retail chain.

“To maximize the opportunities the digital age affords us, we need a foundation that supports (that) guiding principle.

The IP network will carry voice, video and data over a single network infrastructure.

According to a release, the Telus IP system, which is compatible with Best Buy Canada’s existing network, will reduce implementation risks and enable productivity-enhancing applications such as a new point- of-sale system, video conferencing, multimedia, gaming, and music.
