Oslo-based Tandberg Corp. today introduced a server that the company says will bring telepresence and multi-vendor video conferencing end points into a single environment.

“The Tandberg Telepresence Server will break down the barrier between telepresence and video conferencing, enabling everyone both inside and outside of an organization to interact face-to-face,” said Hakon Dahle, the firm’s chief technologist.

“In addition, it will future-proof an organization’s investment in video communications.”

Meeting participants can see each other at the same time between multiple sites, rather than just one other site.

“The ability to include video systems from multiple vendors in telepresence sessions while maintaining the ‘in the same room’ collaboration experience is extremely powerful,” said Ira Weinstein, senior analyst and partner at Wainhouse Research.
