Sumitomo Electric Lightwave today announced that its PureAccess Bend-Insensitive Fiber is now the standard used in its FTTx Drop Cable product line.

The company says the move provides increased flexibility required for greater fiber density and low bending loss in FTTx terminals and closures.

The PureAccess drop cables feature fibers with minimum bend radiuses of 15 mm, a 50% decrease in bend sensitivity of conventional single-mode fiber.

When wrapped around a 30mm diameter mandrel, they exhibit no additional attenuation loss, thereby preserving signal strength, Sumitomo says.
