Montreal-based SR Telecom Inc., a provider of licensed OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) products, today announced it has signed an agreement with Axtel S.A. de C.V. for an equipment purchase commitment of US$10 million.

Shipments are scheduled to begin immediately with deployment and services scheduled throughout the second quarter

Axtel is Mexico’s largest competitive local exchange carrier with more than 600,000 installed lines.

The wireless broadband equipment will enable Axtel to expand its broadband services in 17 cities.

The SR Telecom Wi-Max-ready symmetry offering will provide carrier-class voice and broadband data services as the company expands its coverage.

SR Telecom’s products are used by large telephone and Internet service providers to supply broadband data and carrier-class voice services to end-users in urban, suburban, and remote areas around the globe.

The company is a principal member of the Wi-Max Forum, an industry initiative which promotes the deployment of broadband wireless access networks by using a global standard and certifying interoperability of products and technologies.
