Vancouver, British Columbia — Sierra Wireless is implementing a business restructuring program that will see the company lay off one-third of its staff, from 275 to 180 employees.

The wireless provider says it is taking such measures to reduce its operating expenses and asset levels. According to Sierra, taking these steps now “will position the company to operate at a lower breakeven point, maintain cash reserves and focus on returning to profitability.”

The company’s president and COO, Glen Brownlee, has decided to retire from the company. His duties will be assumed by the company’s Chairman and CEO, David Sutcliffe. The company’s VP of Engineering, Marek Dutkiewicz, has also decided to leave the company, and Steve Blaine, currently Director of GSM Engineering, will assume his responsibilities.
