Broadband fixed wireless vendor SR Telecom Inc. today announced the appointment of telecom industry veteran Serge Fortin as its new president and CEO, effective July 10.

Fortin most recently served in an executive capacity at London, England-based FLAG Telecom, part of the Reliance Group of Companies, a major corporation in India.

He previously held various senior management positions in engineering, operations, sales and marketing at Teleglobe, including that of chief operations officer. Fortin, who has a Bachelor’s degree in Pure and Applied Sciences from the University of Sherbrooke, also held several executive positions with Bell Canada.

He succeeds William Aziz, who has served as the interim president and CEO of the Montreal-based company since July 2005.
