Redback Networks Inc., a provider of broadband networking systems, today announced that it has created an integrated offering with HP Corp. that manages MPLS virtual private networking services.

The offering includes Redback’s SmartEdge Service Gateway and HP’s OpenView Service Activator.

“In order to take full advantage of advanced IP services, carriers will require integration of best-of-breed products with the OSS environment to enable customers to more effectively operate and deploy services in their networks,” said Paul Hughes, director of billing and payment applications at Yankee Group.

Service Activator provides a framework for the creation and activation of all types of services, regardless of the underlying network technology.

SmartEdge platform enable carriers to rapidly deploy and manage VPN services in any environment. According to the company, MPLS VPN services can be delivered over ATM, Frame Relay, or Ethernet.

“As carriers deploy next generation networks, it is crucial that they have the tools for rapid service activation and management,” said Shailesh Shukla, Redback’s vice president of strategy and business development.
