Allstream, a division of Manitoba Telecom Services Inc., today announced that it has signed a major contract with Praxair Inc.

With annual sales of $6.6 billion, Praxair is a global, Fortune 500 company that supplies atmospheric, process and specialty gases, high-performance coatings, and related services and technologies.

Under terms of the three-year deal, Allstream will migrate 172 of its sites in Canada and the U.S. to a Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) IP network. The migration, expected to be completed by the end of September, will converge voice and data traffic on to a single network.

“As a global leader in our business, Praxair is committed to adopting innovative technologies that will enable us to compete better in our marketplace,” said David Kehmna, the company’s global director of telecommunications.

“With a MPLS network, we will be able to increase productivity, improve customer service and add new network-based applications in a cost-effective manner.”
