Navtel Communications Inc. a developer of test equipment for the laboratories of network equipment manufacturers and operators, today released PacketCable Call Management Server [CMS] test product, which supports NCS, Dynamic Quality of Service [DQoS] and integrated IP Security.

PacketCable specifies the use of IPSEC to secure the signaling and data connections so as to protect against threats such as theft of service, denial of service attacks, and unlawful intercepts of customer information, the Markham, Ont. Company said in a release.

“Every MTA (Modem Terminal Adapter) will have its own secure connection to the CMS and since IPSEC is CPU and memory intensive, the performance and capacity of the CMS could significantly degrade when IPSEC is enabled,” it said.

“In addition, IPSEC and DQOS could add additional complexity to the fault recovery mechanisms of the network placing the stability of the network at risk in the event of network failure or even scheduled network maintenance activities.

The user can configure different call patterns, call rates and call hold times to test the CMS behavior under different real-world traffic scenarios such as single call, uniform, step and burst.
