Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. today announced the development of its 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GE) prototype, which follows the company’s launch of a 100G wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) prototype in July.

The 100GE technology provides a high-speed Ethernet interface and works with 40G and 100G WDM technologies.

According to Huawei, the current boom in broadband services has placed significant bandwidth demands on transport networks and existing 40G WDM technology which is currently widely-deployed on a commercial basis in many networks around the world.

The company is currently participating in the development of the 100GE standard 802.3ba.
