Force10 Networks Inc. today announced the S-Series S7000 Open Cloud Switch, which the company describes as a new type of Top of Rack (ToR) networking node that combines storage and application processing capabilities in a single 2RU unit. Optimized for vertical enterprise and cloud data centre market segments, the S7000 enables ‘cloud-in-a-rack’ capabilities.

Force10’s new Open Cloud Networking framework, which was also announced today, is designed to simplify deployment and management of cloud and conventional enterprise data centres.

“The S7000 supports this initiative by speeding processing, slashing OpEx and CapEx, and enabling intelligent cloud management in the data centre,” the company said.

It contains a total of 64 10GbE non-blocking ports and also incorporates TRILL, User Port Stacking, and Virtual Link Trunking (VLT).

The S7000 will be available in the second half of this year.
