Senior executives with Federal Express Canada Ltd. officially opened their new state-of-the-art Canadian hub facility today.

“The launch represents a major milestone for our Canadian operations,” said company president Don Colleran. "More than bricks and mortar, this leading-edge hub is a vital trade conduit — unparalleled in scope — linking Canadian businesses to global markets. In particular, our new facility supports our longstanding trade relationship with the United States and provides an effective link between corporate Canada and important markets in the U.S.”

Located beside Pearson International Airport, the hub is the first facility in Canada to use Symbol ring scanners — a hands-free scanning device that allows employees to handle packages more easily. Wireless technology is also used throughout the building.

In addition, its Computer Control Centre is capable of handling complex routing, assuring flexibility and a smoother workflow. The built-in flexibility of the system allows the Control Centre to create detours around various problem areas to ensure reliability and continuous performance.
