Transition Networks has introduced a Power over Ethernet (PoE) 10Mbps copper to fiber media converter. The offering combines data received over a fiber optic link with -48VDC power, and transmits the power and data over unshielded twisted pair. This device is used to power and transmit data to wireless LAN access points, voice over IP phones, and remote cameras. Since these are typically located in a remote location, the converter eliminates the need to run separate power.
