A Ottawa-based Telesat says its new satellite-based high-speed business Internet service is available to businesses anywhere in Canada and the United States.

The new Telesat High Speed Internet service, offered in partnership with Virginia-based Spacenet Inc., a subsidiary of Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd., enables two-way high-speed Internet access for users across North America.

“Telesat High Speed Internet has been designed with business users in mind — and it’s the only one built on Canadian facilities,” said Dennis Billard, Telesat’s VP of business development.

The new service was designed for businesses that require Internet access at ADSL-type speeds at locations that are outside serviced areas. This market could include large enterprises, the resource sector, franchise businesses and government institutions.

The service is based on Gilat’s 360E VSAT platform, designed for commercial applications. The companies say its benefits include highly optimized Internet application support, direct Ethernet connectivity, robust system reliability and advanced quality-of-service features.

Telesat’s resellers include Infosat Communications of Burnaby, BC, and RamTelecom of Ottawa.
