CABLING SYSTEMS WELCOMES BOARD MEMBER

Cabling Systems magazine is pleased to welcome Corinne Corcoran of Anixter Canada Inc. to its Editorial Advisory Board.

Currently VP of Marketing and Inventory Management at the Mississauga, Ontario-based distributor, Ms. Corcoran has been with the company since 1986. She began in the accounting department and has held a variety of positions since then, including MIS manager, VP of Operations, and VP of Finance and Administration.

Cabling Systems looks forward to having Ms. Corcoran as a resource and decision-maker on the future editorial direction of the publication.

ATLANTIC SYSTEMS GROUP MAKES APPOINTMENTS

Atlantic Systems Group Inc. of Fredericton, NB has appointed Don Reid to the position of CEO. Mr. Reid succeeds former CEO Pieter Natte, who will remain president of the company and Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Mr. Reid was formerly the president of VERSUS Capital.com, a subsidiary of VERSUS Technologies Inc. Prior to this, he was a Managing Director of Morgan Stanley Dean Witter and co-head of one of its largest investment banking industry groups. In his new position, Mr. Reid will be based in the U.S., where he will work on expand the company’s presence.

The company has also appointed Charles M. Young to the position of VP of Sales and Marketing. Mr. Young brings over 17 years of experience in the telecommunications industry to the company. He was, most recently, corporate VP of Sales and Marketing for DURO Communications, an Orlando-based ISP.

Atlantic Systems Group provides enterprise-wide network and telco solutions to the networking and information security markets.

WIELAND APPOINTS TERRITORY MANAGER

Wieland Electric Inc. has promoted David Downey to the position of Territory Sales Manager for the Greater Toronto area.

Previously the Technical Sales Representative for the company’s Calgary office, Mr. Downey will now be responsible for new sales development and building cusomter relationships in his new sales territory.

Prior to joining Wieland, he was sales associate and branch manager at Friesen Electric Co. Ltd. in Calgary.

COLDSWITCH HIRES DIRECTOR OF R&D

CST Coldswitch Technologies Inc., Richmond, BC has announced that Dr. Ivan Melnik has joined the Company as Director of Research and Development.

Dr. Melnik will lead the growth of the company’s intellectual property base, and will direct development of its fiber optic and switching technology.

Dr. Melnik has held a variety of positions in Russia, the Ukraine and Germany, in addition to positions at Simon Fraser University and Applied Medical Devices in British Columbia. He holds 12 Russian and four Ukrainian patents, and is the inventor of record on four U.S. patents and patent applications.

MITEC MAKES CHANGES

Montreal-based Mitec Telecom has announced that Serge Fournier has resigned as its president, COO and director. The company’s Chairman and CEO, Myer Bentob, will assume the additional role of interim president.

In assuming this position, Mr. Bentob will relinquish his Chairman’s role, which will now be assumed jointly by Lionel Hurtubise, Chairman of Ericsson Communications Inc., and Hubert Marleau, President of Palos Capital Corporation.

The company, a designer and manufacturer of wireless products for the telecommunications industry, has also appointed Jeff Joseph to the newly created position of Director of Sales and Marketing – worldwide.

In this position, Mr. Joseph will supervise both wireless and Satcom sales and marketing and will also be responsible to expand Mitec’s sales and marketing group.

SCTE EXPANDS STAFF

The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE), Exton, PA has made two new appointments. Bob Messer has been appointed to the position of Technical Trainer, and Annette Sabellico will become the company’s new Logistics Coordinator.

Mr. Messer, whose background includes 11 years in the cable telecommunications industry, started in cable as an installer and worked his way through several managerial positions.

Ms. Sabellico, whose background includes 15 years in the shipping industry, worked at Futronix in Exton, PA for three years before coming to the SCTE.

WEST BAY GETS ENGINEERING MANAGER

West Bay Semiconductor Inc. of Vancouver has announced that Dr. Chong T. Ong, PhD, has joined its ranks as Engineering Manager.

In his new position, Dr. Ong will provide guidance on evolving standards and protocols, helping to direct the impact of the company’s new product development efforts.

Dr. Ong comes to West Bay Semiconductor from Agilent Technologies in Vancouver, where he was Section Manager responsible for management of the Gigabit Ethernet, Digital Video and access test business.

West Bay Semiconductor Inc. is a privately owned semiconductor company that designs and markets integrated circuits for optical communications network systems.
