Nortel Networks, Brampton, ON has signed a deal to outsource specific operations in North America and Asia to Solectron Corp. of Milipitas, CA — the world’s largest electronics manufacturing services company. The companies are also discussing the outsourcing of certain manufacturing and repair operations in Europe.

The four-year supply agreement, valued at more than US$10 billion, will see Solectron provide electronics manufacturing services to Nortel, including printed circuit board assemblies and repair services.

Under terms of the deal, approximately 4,200 employees will move over to Solectron.
