Nortel Networks of Brampton, ON, has completed the acquisition of Promatory Communications Inc., a Fremont, California-based developer of Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) platforms for high-speed Internet access.

Nortel says Promatory’s DSL solutions will accelerate its leadership in high-speed Internet access by “bringing a new generation of intelligent, high-performance Internet services to the first mile.”

As a result of the approximately US$778 million merger, Promatory (which has been renamed Nortel Networks Broadband Access Inc.), becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of Nortel Networks. Promatory’s operations will remain in California.
