As part of its ongoing endeavor to create an all-optical network, Nortel Networks of Brampton, ON, has acquired Photonic Technologies, a pioneer in strategic optical components based in Sydney, Australia.

Nortel, which already owned approximately one third of the privately held company, recently finalized the deal valued at approximately US$35.5 million.

Photonic Technologies develops optical component technology for the manipulation and control of the polarization of light. The company’s circulators and dynamic gain flattening filters are critical technologies for high-speed optical networks and Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) networks.

Photonic Technologies will become part of Nortel’s High Performance Optical Component Solutions (HPOCS) unit.
