New modular Power Distribution Units (PDUs) from Hewlett-Packard Canada Ltd. are designed for dense data center environments and as a result, can be mounted in a zero-U/1U configuration without consuming valuable rack space.

Their modular architecture means that power outlets can be fanned out along the length of the rack. The building block concept consists of two main parts — the Control Unit (CU) and Extension Bars. Each CU is a single-phase unit that branches out into four single-phase branch circuits.

The company says that orderly cable management is key in avoiding electrical disasters within crowded computer, data centre and telecom rack enclosures. The design allows mounting of extension bars closest to the rack’s computing devices.
