Hitachi Cable Manchester (HCM) will soon begin shipping cable designed for 10 Gigabit Ethernet transmission speeds that utilizes a patent-pending dual-jacket construction the company says guarantees 10Gb/s performance and simplifies both installation and termination.

At press time, the unshielded twisted-pair cable was being independently tested to the proposed IEEE 802.3an standard. It will be manufactured at Hitachi’s 300,000 square foot facility located in Manchester, N.H.

Driving the need for higher-performance communication cabling is the ever-growing thirst for bandwidth, the company says. High bandwidth needs in industries such as financial, medical and scientific research require a cable infrastructure that can accommodate bandwidth hungry applications such as streaming video, file transfer, medical imaging and high-resolution graphics and images.
