In an effort to better serve its business customers in the national capital, Toronto-based GT Group Telecom Inc. has opened the doors to a new office in Ottawa. The independent, facilities-based CLEC is investing $20 million in the new infrastructure, which will include a new fiber-optic network and will see the immediate creation of 30 new jobs.

Robert Wolfe, president and COO of Group Telecom, said that in addition to this initial investment, Group Telecom has another $10 million budgeted to expand its network assets in the region next year.

The company also recently opened a new office in Quebec City, investing $16 million to expand its national fiber-optic network to that city and creating 30 new jobs in the region.

Group Telecom currently has a national fiber-optic network that spans eight provinces and is linked by 190,583 kilometres of fiber-optic strands.
