General Cable has released the G10X, a new addition to the NextGen brand of G-Series multimode fiber. The 50-micron glass fiber allows for 10 Gb/s serial transmission over 300 meters at 850nm as specified in IEEE 802.3ae. According to the company, it provides guaranteed performance for 10-Gigabit Ethernet transmission, while maintaining backward compatibility with existing networks.

The 10 Gb/s technology extends the speed of Ethernet operation from 10 Mbps to 10,000 Mbps effectively linking LANs to municipal and wide area networks. All NextGen cable products are engineered in accordance with such industry standards as Telecordia Technologies GR-20, GR-409, ICEA and RUS (REA PE-90).
