Networking giant Cisco Systems, San Jose, CA, has teamed up with New-York-based GE Industrial Systems, a leader in factory control and automation, to form a new company.

Called GE Cisco Industrial Networks, the company will focus on assessing, designing and building network infrastructures for manufacturing plant floor and industrial environments that will enable enterprise-wide communication.

The company says it plans to use the Ethernet open standard network infrastructure to “bridge the information gap between the factory floor and the rest of the enterprise.”
