Exfo Electro-Optical Engineering Inc. has released the FiberBasix 500, a handheld test instrument that enables accurate measurement of signal attenuation during fiber optic cable installations.

The 500 Series includes the EOT-500 Optical Loss Test and ELS-500 Light Source.

The light source combines up to four wavelengths and is available in four configurations.

FiberBasix allows for the testing of passive optical networks (PONs) at 1310, 1490 and 1550 nm, the three wavelengths recommended by the ITU-T (G.983.3) for PONs.

Available from Nedco Telecom, other features include memory capacity for upwards of 1,000 data items, all of which can be transferred to a PC via a USB connection.
