Draka Comteq USA recently introduced copper and fiber optic cables that meet stringent quality requirements and can be used for communications links, data networks, video broadcasting and emergency systems repairs in nuclear power plants.

In addition, its new shipboard fiber optic cables — ShipLan Category 5e UTP and STP – for data to the desktop, video monitoring, broadcast and control, are available in water-blocked and non-water blocked constructions.

Both lines have passed a qualification program that includes tests such as acid gas generation, halogen content, smoke generation, flame propagation, thermal shock and fluid immersion.

The use of low smoke, zero-halogen materials is critical in a shipboard environment to insure the safety of personnel and equipment.
