Transition Networks has announced a new media converter that permits industrial network integration into the corporate LAN.

The new RS422/485 copper to fiber media converter allows serial port connections of up to 2,000 metres on multimode and 20 kilometres over singlemode cable at speeds up to 500 kilobits per second.

Network administrators can connect devices, such as security scanners or point-of-sale (POS) devices, to a host computer with the RS 422/485 configuration. The company says this will benefit campus environments where remote devices can be networked to a point-to-point configuration for distances up to 2,000 metres over multimode fiber. Network administrators can also integrate industrial networks into the corporate LAN.
