Global wireless providers Bell Mobility and Hansol PCS have joined forces to develop third-generation wireless standards, technology and services.

Under the agreement, the two companies will work to exchange information on IMT-2000 standardization issues and contribute to the international standardization process. They will also cooperate in joint-studies into third-generation product development and work to develop new services suitable for global roaming.

In addition, the companies have agreed to pursue cooperation in the areas of data and value-added services, and in the development of wireless intelligent networks.

Third-generation technology is expected to deliver a variety of benefits over the next five to ten years, including improved global roaming and an array of multimedia services delivered at data rates of between 144 Kb/s and 2 Mb/s.
