After spending the last four years as the director for Region 5, it's time for Greg to step down. Roman Dabrowski officially takes over next month at the BICSI Winter Conference in Orlando.
December 1, 2002
With the BICSI election complete and Bell Canada’s Roman Dabrowski named as my successor, this marks my final column as the director for Region 5. It has been great working with Cabling Systems and I’d like to personally thank the magazine for giving me the opportunity to keep the members updated on news from the world of BICSI during the last four years.
The transition will occur during the BICSI Winter Conference in Orlando, Fla. next month when all new board officers will be inducted.
I’d like to congratulate Roman and also thank Dennis Wade of Cabletel and James Massie of Berk-Tek for running for the position and for their interest in BICSI.
Roman joins the other newly elected directors that include Secretary Steve Calderon, RCDD/LAN/OSP Specialist, IT Design Corp, Westlake Village, Calif.; US Southeast Region Director Jerry V. Allen, RCDD, Emory University, Atlanta, Ga.; US Western Region Director Stephan Fowler, RCDD, Encompass Network Services, Tempe, Ariz.; US South-Central Region Director James Ray Craig, RCDD/LAN Specialist, ComNet Communications, Carrollton, Tex.; Brazilian Region Director Paulo Sergio Marin, The Siemon Co-Brazil, Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Existing board members serving through 2003 include John Payseur (President), Russ Oliver (President-Elect), Mel Lesperance (Treasurer), Edward Donelan (U.S. Northeast Region Director) and European Region Director Carole El Zein.

2003 WINTER BICSI CONFERENCE
This year’s winter conference moves to a new and larger location — Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center. I am sure that everyone will agree that this new facility will support our requirements much better as this event has grown in size over the years.
The BICSI Winter Conference is designed to bring you up-to-date information through education and speakers. Attendees include telecommunications professionals from around the globe, ranging from practitioners to end-users.
There are also many opportunities to network with your peers, and you will be exposed to state-of-the-art exhibits during continental breakfasts and evening receptions. I hope to see many of you there.
In closing, there are many people that I would like to thank. First, the staff at BICSI for their help over the past four years. Terry Cone from BICSI’s Tampa office deserves special mention — she helped me on more than one occasion in getting information that I could include in my articles.
Thanks also to Phyllis Galbraith for all her hard work with BICSI Cares and for raising money for children who are not as fortunate as ours.
And a big thank you to John Bakowski, current secretary on the BICSI Board (who is also completing his term in January) for all his help and support over the years and Tyco Electronics, for their corporate support while I was working for them.
Thanks also to my fellow board members — a group of dedicated individuals that work on a volunteer basis for the good of the organization, my wife Susan, for putting up with my endless series of meetings that took place at the conferences she attended with me, and past presidents Dick Powell and Dick Reed who served during my terms.
Lastly, I want to thank the Cabling Systems readers and BICSI members for giving me the opportunity to serve you as Regional Director. I have truly enjoyed this very rewarding experience.
On a final note, the editor has asked if I would be interested in contributing articles relating to our industry in the future and I have agreed. I am not sure what I will be writing about just yet, but stay tuned.
