Enterasys Networks Inc. today announced a partnership with Lucent Technologies that it says will focus on delivering Secure Networks and services products to enterprises.

As a first phase of the partnership, Lucent has joined the Enterasys Secure Networks Certified Technology Partner Program (SNCPP) as its founding member.

Enterasys says its Secure Networks represent a “new way of networking.”

The embedded technology in Enterasys’ ASICS, firmware and application software allows the network to play an active role in securing an IT infrastructure.

Features include centralized policy-based networking, automated network management and advanced user authentication.

“We’ve all seen how security concerns around enterprise networks have risen over the past couple of years, said John Meyer, president of Lucent Worldwide Services.

"By leveraging the strengths of both companies in security and converged networks, Lucent and Enterasys will be able to provide enterprise customers increased network security and reduced network downtime.”

SNCPP partnerships will include such categories as anti-virus, firewall, virtual private networking, and intrusion defense and vulnerability assessment functionality.

Lucent’s VitalSuite, VPN Firewall and Navis Radius products will be among the first certified within the Secure Networks framework.

According to Enterasys, the world of networking is changing. "It’s no longer just about cost, connectivity and capacity," it says. "Now your business and consequently your network has even greater needs. If the ability for users to connect to your network is compromised, then business continuity is threatened."

Networks, it says, need to move beyond simple connectivity to differentiate between good and bad traffic.
