Lumos Networks, a fiber-based service provider in the mid-Atlantic region of the U.S., has successfully completed a technology test of Cisco’s 100 Gigabit (100G) coherent DWDM solution across its service area. Cisco said in a release the performance validation confirms that Lumos Networks can meet growing customer demand for high-capacity bandwidth on its existing 10G fiber plant simply by deploying 100G line cards in its current Cisco ONS 15454 platforms.

With headquarters in Waynesboro, Va., Lumos Networks serves Virginia, West Virginia and portions of Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Ohio, and Maryland over a 5,800 route-mile fiber network.

“Leading service providers worldwide are preparing for the next-generation Internet to facilitate the increasing demand for video, collaboration, and distributed computing,” said  Bill Gartner, vice president and general manager of Cisco’s optical transport business unit.
