Cisco Systems Inc. today unveiled a single-box offering for cable operators or multiple service operators (MSOs) selling services to small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) and enterprises with branch operations.

The technology was introduced at the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers’ annual Cable-Tec Expo.

The Cisco Integrated Business Service consists of a Cisco 815 Cable Integrated Services Router (ISR) and Cisco High-Speed WAN Interface Cards (HWIC-CABLE-D-2 and HWIC-CABLE-E/J-2).

Cisco says MSOs will no longer need to provide two customer premise devices — a cable modem and a router — in order to deploy business services.

“Business services such as secure connectivity, Internet Protocol-based voice and video communications and wireless and wired local area network services, to name a few, represent a tremendous growth opportunity for cable operators around the world,” said Teresa Mastrangelo, principal analyst of Broadbandtrends, an independent market research and consulting firm specializing in the coverage of network transformation activity related to broadband infrastructure and services.
