Cisco Corp. today announced its new TelePresence Meeting, a remote communications product that the company says creates unique “in-person” experiences among people, places, and events.

AT&T has completed initial testing to help ensure network interoperability and performance of the TelePresence Meeting product, with plans to incorporate offerings into its network integration and managed video communications portfolio, pending successful completion of full trials.

“This has the potential to deliver face-to-face communications on a whole new level,” said Eric Shepcaro, senior vice president of business development for AT&T.

Cisco said the system provides the industry’s first ultra-high-quality 1080p video for an image that is six times better than standard television and more than two times better than HDTV, with life-size images of far-end participants on three 65-inch plasma displays.

A fixed camera array provides, ultra high-definition video of the entire room, with no user operation required. The cameras are designed to work well within normal conference room lighting, and provide users with improved eye contact.
