Canix Colo Inc. www.canix.ca today announced the completion of a $12 million investment program in electro-mechanical infrastructure at the firm’s two co-location centres in Montreal.

The work performed started more than two years ago and, according to the company, involved numerous technical challenges. It centred around the  installation of additional groups of emergency generators and supplemental chiller plants independent from base building systems.

Canix says it is the first Canadian company in the co-location industry to install a chiller plant for server rooms that use an eco-friendly and sustainable technology. The new technology implemented in Canix IV, one of the two data centres involved in the upgrade, will minimize greenhouse gas emissions and set new standards for the industry in terms of tons of CO2 per server kilowatt. the company said.
