Huawei Technologies today announced that it has been selected by Bell Canada to provide network infrastructure for its national overlay of HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) technology to its national EVDO (Evolution Data Optimized) wireless network.

The HSPA overlay will also offer Bell an upgrade path forward to LTE (Long Term Evolution), the global Fourth Generation (4G) wireless standard.

The multi-year, multi-million dollar agreement will see Huawei providing Bell with radio access network technology for its new next generation wireless network.

Bell wireless customers will be able to choose between EVDO — already the dominant 3G standard in Canada and across North America — and HSPA, which is rapidly becoming the main platform with carriers outside North America.
