New computer technologies driven by communications data and analytics that intelligently automate communications will transform the way humans interact with each other to conduct business, says Avaya Labs scientist Doree Seligmann.

“What people are doing in their day to day business communications helps to identify who they should be interacting with and how,” said Seligmann, who will speak today at the first IEEE International Conference on Semantic Computing.

“By combining context awareness and social networking, we expect to be able to establish more effective and successful interactions.”

Seligmann, director of collaborative applications research for Avaya Labs, heads a group that has developed algorithms and models to infer an individuals communication context that includes presence, availability, whether they can be interrupted and are willing to interact, their area of expertise and their social cohesiveness.

The conference is an international forum for researchers to exchange information regarding advancements in the state of the art and practice of semantic computing, which is a vision of information technology based on semantics shared between people and machines, aiming at making computers more usable and useful to everybody.
