Telecom and networking equipment based on the emerging Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (ATCA) technology standard will reach the market in significant numbers in 2006, according to a worldwide survey of systems manufacturers conducted by Light Reading’s Comm Chip Insider.
ATCA, AMCs, and MicroTCA 2006 Market Outlook presents results and analysis for the survey, which includes responses from more than 230 employees representing more than 100 different telecom and networking equipment manufacturers.
It also covers equipment vendor deployment plans for the following technologies: ATCA, Advanced mezzanine cards (AMCs), MicroTCA, ATCA and MicroTCA applications, and fabric interconnects for ATCA systems.
The survey found that:
* Almost 60% of telecom and networking OEMs surveyed say they are now developing ATCA-based systems.
* A majority of OEMs using ATCA say they will ship their first ATCA system within the next year.
* A significant number of OEMs are using ATCA systems developed by integrators — a shift from the historical trend of using only in-house development.
* VOIP gateways and media servers are emerging as the leading applications for ATCA in telecom equipment.
